It's alright, Andy. You're entitled to the opinion that you can like the film. I actually love Cars 2, too, and John and company would appreciate you not being rude. There are actually major flaws in the counterargument against you below, but if it helps, next time, you can just ignore those who think they can refuse to let you enjoy the film. It's like we can't win even if we're not in the wrong, but I'm just here to say I feel you and I'm sorry. We can like Cars 2 if we want to. It doesn't make us blind fans, it means we're being honest and positive.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! This means that: THE INCREDIBLES 2 will NEVER EVER come out! This is my very first year of NO PIXAR FILM(S) coming out at all in a single year! I was also so excited all about: FINDING DORY coming out! now I have to WAIT EVEN LONGER for it all to come out! On; Tue., March 15, 2005 was the very date that THE INCREDIBLES came out on DVD in stead of a film coming out in the theaters. So, will a movie be coming out on DVD in the year of 2013 at all? Like THE INCREEDIBLES did in 2005, instead of a movie coming out in ALL of the theaters, like THE INCREDIBLES did, or not?! This change really breaks my heart!

Im actually not surprised. as time went buy over the course of 2012-2013, we weren't really hearing much about The Good Dinosaur. No trailer, no marketing/advertising, and barely any footage or concept artwork until this years D23. This whole film always felt a little behind to him. When i heard Bob Peterson was bunked from the movie, i was bummed out but also like "ah that makes some sense".

that all being said, and to reiterate what others are saying, more time will only make The Good Dinosaur better, especially with those those 4 guys, two of which are in my eyes Pixar Legends, as i truly believe it can become a classic as its got a great premise and what i speculate some beautiful artwork. It's going to be worth the wait for sure.

2 more things: 1) i got to agree with you Greg. I too am most excited for Inside Out. and hopefully Pixar uses this freed up time to amp up the excitement for that. lets see a trailer for it in front of a summer 2014 movie! and 2) a summer 2014 movie.. hmm maybe Pixar should do another 3D theatrical re-release next summer. those were pretty successful right? Finding Nemo was spectacular and MI was a lot of fun. maybe something like Incredibles.

tl;dr not surprised. i trust Lassater and all those guys. excited for both Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. want Pixar to do a re-release of old movie in 3D to replace it.

It is so interesting that this happens now as I am well into watching the entire Pixar Blu-ray library in depth (as in every feature and commentary on the discs.) Right now I'm up to Toy Story 3 and the announcement shows how greatly things have changed.

We are all familiar with "Black Friday" when the original Toy Story was screened for Disney executives and they wanted to immediately shutter the entire operation. Ten crazy, sleepless days later, the entirely revamped story reel was shown and they had pulled off a miracle; the rest is history.

The Toy Story 2 (originally supposed to be direct to DVD) dilemma was MUCH more critical. They had no more than 7 MONTHS to bring Laesseter into the project immediately after A Bugs Life with no break, work around the clock and somehow deliver a superior work on time to critical acclaim.

They don't have to do that any more. Now if it looks like it's not going to be "Pixar worthy," today's announcement shows how much their reputation means to them. They will go a year with no release rather than trash their reputation and personal/corporate integrity. If you think about it carefully, not many organizations can afford to do this and most would be completely unwilling.

I'm actually glad that they have built such a track record (and kind of taken over the controls of the Mouse House) that they can afford to do this.

Yup, I have the exact same sentiments. Pixar has been known to iron out every details in their stories and it shows here. We might get a gap in the movies but at least the quality wouldn't suffer. Can't wait for Inside Out!

Gabe. that's a great attitude. I'm super bummed that the gap will be so large and looking back on their films in recent years, I think some have been rushed……that being said, I'm most excited for Inside Out and that's next!

I'm both disapointed and relieved. I m sad it will be over 2 years till we see another Pixar film. But on the other hand, I'm really glad they're not rushing this film through production with the story troubles that are going on. I'd much rather wait a year and have a great film to watch for the rest of my life, then get it on time and it just be mediocre.
I'm hopeful.

I'm so excited to buy it! cars 1 was amazing! I hope we can get a lot of new extras and new extended scenes. I wish this have a bunch of new extras different from the ones we had on the regular bluray :)

Everyone thinks of Pixar as some idyllic wonderland, but that itself seems sketchy. I kind of wonder if this is the consequence of having the same few guys make all the creative decisions for the studio. Obviously they're transitioning into the next generation of Pixar directors, and might get rough before it gets better. I think their track record for making amazing movies speaks for itself, but maybe that's leading them into a lack of flexibility. If the TGD was in trouble, it's good they solved the problem. But I wonder if this was the result of trying to stick to their proven formula instead of thinking about the story in broader terms.

I don't think the 'people being promoted to director that aren’t best suited for the role' tag is relevant to Peterson; he's a Pixar veteran with a proven track-record. I just think Pixar is really trying to create something special for TGD, and if re-jigging directors can help achieve this so be it.

Look what happened on Ratatouille.....!

Really really looking forward to this one, but I must say I'm not crazy about those character designs. Looks more like something from a dreamworks film, and there doesn't seem to be any consistency between the five of them.
